How to study IB Physics SL

IB Physics SL uses models, mathematics, experiments, and data to study five connected themes: space, time and motion; the particulate nature of matter; wave behaviour; fields; and nuclear and quantum physics. Forces, energy, and particles provide recurring conceptual links across the course. The current syllabus began teaching in August or September 2023 and was first assessed in 2025. SL prioritises secure physical models, accurate application, and concise interpretation of calculations and evidence.

Models and principles

Mathematics and representation
